Leaving behind a dark, uncertain past, a mystifying eighteen-year-old girl steps off a bus in a small, New England town and becomes a catalyst in the lives of others. Virginia Emmet, an older woman who gives Delilah room and board, Harold Reinman, a young man left with the mind of a child after years of abuse, but most strongly, Amos Harrison -- the first to accept her into their lives, finds that something about her quiet, uncanny wisdom and simple honesty pushes him to face truths he'd rather avoid.

But while together, they find friendship moving more toward family, as Amos unravels a long-standing sadness, Harold is coaxed out of his damaged solitude and Virginia works her way toward peace, Delilah's own past is catching up with her...

"...Delilah...is a charmer, a being blessed with a charisma as mysterious as it is luminous. You won't soon forget her."

I so enjoyed reading Delilah of Sunhats and Swans.  This beautiful book had me sucked in from the very start, and I could not stop reading until the very end.

Author Melissa Volker has done a wonderful job in creating characters that her readers will relate to, connect with, care about, and will continue to think of long after the story is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I am not sure what is.

Any reader who enjoys reading an exceptional work of fiction with beautiful characterizations and a compelling story line should absolutely read Delilah of Sunhats and Swans.

I highly recommend this book, and I certainly hope that the extremely promising author, Melissa Volker, is already hard at work on another novel. If it's anything like this, it will absolutely be worth reading!"

Jessica, GoodReads Reader

It's one of those books that grabs you right off from page one with endearing characters!

The main character, Delilah is a gem. She is the type of person who walks in the room and it lights up. The type of person who is naturally personable, and everyone she comes into contact with can relate to.

She is the type of person that forever changes you...the type of person who life will never be the same after knowing.

A fine story of the complexities of humanity; of love, loss, friendship, and healing. The characterization was fantastic, the story charming and sweet. A quick read, well worth your time.

Robin Spielberg, Author/Musician

This was one of my summer reads. Great choice. It took me to a whole other world.

I was instantly endeared to the characters in this book. They all seem to have a bit of mystery to them and Melissa Volker keeps the reader's interest by peeling back their layers a little at a time.

This is one of those novels that has beautiful descriptive language; I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Delilah's new small town home through her eyes.

This character, while resilient, is always vulnerable and you find yourself wishing good things for her and for those she cares about.
I will look for future writings by this author. Lovely read.
