Bio
Daughter of a playwright/novelist and a poet, Melissa Volker is an an award-winning author whose debut novel, Delilah of Sunhats Swans received a Five Star Review from Reader's Favorites and was praised by Alice Fulton, Guggenheim Fellow Poet, who said, "Delilah...is a charmer, a being blessed with a charisma as mysterious as it is luminous. You won't soon forget her."
She has written literary fiction, and unconventional, genre-bending YA that seeks to explore the lives of teens and young adults through the use of imaginative storytelling.
Readers have described her writing as "beautiful, descriptive language", "lyrical, lilting and poignant", with "characters you connect with and care about".
Some FUN FACTS in my own words:
I am a total geekgrrl, Marvel fanatic and Wonder Woman wannabe (Thor would be cool, too, and Captain America is my go-to hero). I love sci-fi, video games and cosplay (yes, seriously). I cry at commercials. I'm totally a Huffelpuff.
The family and I love Boston and visit regularly because we miss it and Boston is cool (go Sox!) Writers that have moved me: Anne Lamott, Jane Hamilton, Alice Hoffman, WP Kinsella, Ralph Ellison, Robert Pirsig, A.S. King (every teen and parent-to-teen must read her!) -- to name but a very few -- I could fill a website with them all.
If writing wasn't enough, I also dabble in photography because different things want their stories told in different ways, and I can often be found creating cosplay costumes and props for our equally creative kid. So poke around, read some stuff, watch some videos and please explore my photography as well!
Drop me a line, cuz writing is lonely and while I'm an introvert, I love hearing from readers!
What I'm Reading

"There is nothing like watching your child read a book that totally captivates and engages them. This is that story. It took my child by storm and never let her go!!"
Amyanne -- mom, homeschooler
"This story was an adventure that I didn't want to end. I was pulled into this fantasy and felt like I was a part of it. I can't wait for more."
Amelia, Age 12
Delilah of Sunhats and Swans
"The main character, Delilah is a gem. She is the type of person who walks in the room and it lights up. The type of person who is naturally personable, and everyone she comes into contact with can relate to. She is the type of person that forever changes you...the type of person who life will never be the same after knowing."
"I adored 'Delilah of Sunhats and Swans'. I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. It gave hope, it burst with love, inspired faith in good people in the world, and it broke my heart."
"I haven't been able to read a whole book in a long time, until 'Delilah of Sunhats and Swans'. This is a great book club book -- so muc to discuss and explore."
"Delilah, while resilient, is always vulnerable, and you find yourself wishing good things for her and for those she cares about. I will look for future writings from this author. Lovely read."
